Shannon Solomon, Director of Nutrition Services - Aurora Public Schools (center), and two of her employees take delivery of the 25 plexiglass partitions donated by BSI.
When Denver, Colorado-based BSI, LLC discovered it was the victim of a fraudulent order, the team decided to donate the product to support Aurora Public Schools. The issue was identified, and product shipment was able to be intercepted, but not before the 25 custom plexiglass, portable safety partitions had been fabricated. Faced with several thousand dollars of extra product, BSI decided to take a negative situation and turn it into a positive for a local school district near its corporate headquarters and fabrication facility.
BSI decided to recognize Aurora Public Schools, and particularly its Foodservice Department, for the efforts they put forth during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since
March 2020, the school district has served 1.8 million meals for students and their families, going so far as to deliver the pre-packaged meals into students' communities and neighborhoods where transportation to retrieve the meals was a challenge.
As fate would have it, BSI's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Stephanie Gilbert, and Aurora Public Schools' Director of Nutrition Services, Shannon Solomon, met earlier this year at a conference and became fast friends. Remembering her colleague, Gilbert suggested donating the plexiglass partitions to Aurora Public Schools' Foodservice Department. The BSI team was able to surprise Shannon and her staff with a recent Monday morning delivery. The team plans to use the partitions for student registration, classroom separation and in instances where physical distancing is not available.
